“As our circle of awareness has expanded beyond the two of us, we have come to realize just how many people this story has touched. Through different iterations and many long conversations, we have watched people resonate with or relate to a queer love story set in an era and genre of literature where representation can be difficult to find portrayals of different kinds of love and their power to hurt and heal even amidst terrible violence, fraught familial relationships and the struggle against expectations for the future that don't quite fit, and the myriad ways humans process grief and find solace in memory. The magic of classical epic is its power to be both sweeping and intimate at the same time; this is a story that (we hope) contains some idea, some theme, some feeling that anyone can find meaning in, regardless of what they come into the space carrying.”
